Bang, Bang --Week 37
July 15, 2023
Hola todos!
Back at it again this week! The cycle of busyness has slowed down, a win in my book. It's been strange flying solo but it's gone well so far!
Thankfully no houses have blown up this week but a set of hermanas had their apartment broken into. The thieves broke in at midday, took a bunch of clothes, bags and jewelry, and shockingly left their phones and other technology. A little scary for them. They weren't in the house at the time which was a miracle but they're a bit on edge.
Other interesting stories, we found a new family and set another baptismal date! The inactive member mum invited us over because she wants her kids to participate and grow up in the church. The boy we found, his name is Philip and he is 9 years old. He told us that after a careful study of many different religions he wants to be baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ. The kid is stinkin smart. He wants to be a social sciences professor of religion when he grows up. He reads the Book of Mormon on his own and quickly comprehends almost all that we teach him. So he's getting baptized in a month!
His dad is a super important figure in his life. He's an Ex-german soldier (we think he's from East-Germany) who fought against the US in Pakistan. He tells Philip that he had a desk job in the military so he doesnt ask what he really did. He mentioned to us he's seen a lot of death and destruction in his lifetime. He's fully retired and works solely as a stay at home dad. He loves his sons more than anything and openly encourages them to find a religion. He supports Philip fully in his desire to be baptized.
Philip looks up to his dad a ton. Its shown me the importance of a strong father figure in the home. Philip is a really smart kid; driven and intuitive. I believe the support of his dad has made all the difference (mum too!).
In Paraguay we dont often see complete families. Ive taught a lot of kids that either dont have a dad in their life or have a shadow of a father figure. It hurts my heart to see the reflection of the empty space in certain aspects of culture. Not just in Paraguay, all over the world too.
Meeting Philip ive been able to clearly see the power of a dad. His dad isnt a member but he knows the importance of the family and being an example for his kids. It touched me deeply.
I'm really grateful that the church places such an emphasis on the family. It is the most important thing we can do in this life. A strong home built on love and kindness is the first step to building a strong human being! The strength of a nation is determined by the strength of its families.
That's it for my short little email this week! I hope you all are having a wonderful week! May the force be with you and may we have the strength to continue the grind! I love you all!
