Crazy Son of a Gun, He did it--Week 28
May 15, 2023
Hola todos!Ladies and gentlemen, we did it, we had a baptism. Me and Elder Erickson have had a conversion! Who thought it was possible? Well, not me! Yet here we are! Miracles are possible!
We originally had two baptisms planned, Micealas fell through but Juan stayed strong. And hey, one is better than none! We had some bruh moments in preparation but thankfully everything went well!
Friday, before the baptism we turned on the font to make sure everything would be ready for Saturday's baptism. But... when we came back 16 hours later we found the font hadn't filled even 1/4 of the way.
We coulndt find another way to fill the font... so... we ended up using buckets of water for several hours to ready the font before the baptism. It was a lot of work but eventually the hour came and everything was readied. I was super nervous the whole time hoping that everything would go smoothly and thankfully it did. It was a touching baptism and Juan gave a simple testimony at the end and thanked us, "muchachos" for bringing him to the church and the word of God. His family has a lot of interest now as well which is exciting! I'm grateful for the opportunity I've had to teach him.
I also had some really wholesome moments this week.
During intercambios we visited a recent converts house and upon clapping at the gate a 6 or 7 year old little girl ran out of the house with the biggest smile and gave me a hug before I could do anything! I was so taken aback but couldnt help but smile. All her siblings soon followed and greeted us with smiles and cries of "Elder! Elder!" Despite not knowing me, or the other Elder, they were still super excited that the missionaries were there! It's humbling to know that when I put on the white shirt and the black tag I am entrusted with the reputation of acceptance, warmth, and kindness.
A couple days later a member poured her heart out to us about how much she's struggling with her faith and finding joy in the gospel but that our visits have been helping her a lot. She said we have the spirit of Ammon and she's very grateful for the work we're doing. We were both taken aback. We didn't think that two teenage boys from the US with broken Spanish could bring so much comfort to someone we met three weeks ago.
This week has been a real blessing but also a reminder of the immense trust the Lord places in his disciples. Not just missionaries, but all of those who want to do good and help others. When we have a desire to do GOOD, make the effort to be GOOD, we will do GOOD. We won't always see the good we do, but as Ive been reminded this week, it's always there as long as we're trying. So, a pretty wholesome week this week. Lots of stress, good feelings, and some hard work. Very good soup.
May the force be with you all and may the grind never stop! ¡Hasta la próxima semana! ¡Suerte por todo!
