Bruh-- Week 18

3/6/23

Hola Todos!

Well as promised last week, I have news! We have a lot of changes coming... but for me it's gonna be in the same place. I'll be staying in Amambay, Asuncion and our area is going to be combined with Centro. Staying in our wonderfully small house, me and My new comp Elder Smith are excited to have space!
Leaving the house is Elder Alcivar and Elder Porter. Elder Alcivar is leaving to be a zone leader in Luque. Elder Porter is headed into the deep end of the Chaco in Concepcion.
At this moment I am immensely grateful for my trainer Elder Alcivar. Over the last few months he's become a brother to me. He's been an amazing teacher and set a powerful example for who I want to be on my mission. I'm gonna miss him a lot but I'm grateful he was able to teach me so much. He's shown me what it takes to be an inspired leader, a diligent missionary, and a faithful friend. I love the guy and i'm going to miss him a lot.
Now I'll talk more about my newísh assignment. But first a quick list of fun things that happened this week:
1. Elder Costa of the 70 gave some fuego devotionals
2. We had really fun intercambios with some Elders from the chaco
3. Had lots of good goodbyes for Elder Alcivar
Now, back to the news,
Ladies and gentlemen, the life of Elder Tanner and Elder Smith is about to get really hard. Combining centro and amambay we´re going to have to learn how to balance two areas.
Our mission president communicated to us that our job is to keep the momentum of the two wards going. We have built a strong system of ward support for the missionary work in our 3 months here. The area has changed and has a lot of potential! It's gonna be really hard now combining the areas. We have to work between two wards, twice as many people all with half the time and half the resources.
Another adventure... Me and Elder Smith have about the same spanish capabilities. Neither one of us is going to be able to survive without the other.
The Lord and President have a lot of trust in us to run this area. I simultaneously feel blessed and stressed. It's going to be really hard. We´ll always be busy, tired, and probably never do all the things we need to do. I'm scared and a little stressed.
HOWEVER! Me and Elder Smith are confident that we will see miracles these next few months. We have resolved to have faith and trust our purpose here together. The Lord knows we have the abilities and we know he has the way. But man... we´re going to learn a lot about life in this cambio.
That was a lot of information so ill sum-up cambios up in one sentence, "Out of training and into the fire."
This week I've been reminded we're always walking in faith. Through the rain and the mud and the winds of life. The gospels kind of like a really dope umbrella. It doesnt stop the rain, pull your feet out of the mud, or stop the thrashing wind; but the umbrella, the gospel, helps you keep going. It makes the journey a little more comfortable. It shields your face and makes it just bearable enough to remind you that a warm home is waiting, just around the corner. You just gotta put one foot in front of the other.
Ladies and gentlemen! Let us take our umbrellas and confidently walk into the world ready to take on the howling and bitter world! May the Lord protect us in all things!
Farewell and may the grind never stop. Might we rest when we´re dead!
A missionary motivated in the face of imminent ego death,
-Elder James Tanner
